How Can I Get a Kilt?
This page is all about how to get a kilt for yourself, either permanently, or temporarily.
We assume you know about kilts in general, but not much about its details.
The question might be asked: "What is a kilt?"
We‘re going to use the following defnition: "The kilt is a wrap that covers the body from the waist to the knees on all sides and has at least several vertical pleats in the back."
Note that this says nothing about the material it is made of and how many pleats.
You may sometimes see a kilt also referred to as a MUG (Male Un-bifurcated Garment), a term coined by the Utilikilts crowd.
Here we give you some ideas about where and how to acquire a kilt.
As you know, to be able to participate in -Kilts on Skis- you have to have a kilt. You can acquire a kilt in several ways: buy a new one, buy a used one, borrow one, rent one, have one made to your specifications, or make one yourself, either from a kit or from scratch.
We can‘t help you with used ones, because they come and go, and we can‘t help you with borrowing one, because we don‘t know your friends. With the other categories we will give you some help.
We have spent considerable time finding ways to offer for sale a relatively inexpensive kilt, but we have so far been unsuccessful in that endeavor. We continue to look into this, but don‘t count on it.
What we have found, is that you should not be afraid to try to make one yourself. The instructions that we found are fairly complete. It will take some time, but we‘re sure that it will generate great satisfaction.
Kilts are fairly expensive compared to buying a pair of pants or a skirt (We do realize that you can buy very expensive pants and skirts too). The expense is mostly due to the material that is generally recommended, or that‘s used traditionally, namely roughly 8 yards of a heavy pure wool fabric and the amount of work that goes into it.
Before we provide links to resources you must understand that we have nothing to do with any of these places. We don‘t get any kickbacks, although it would be nice to support the Deep Creek Lake Lion‘s Club organization. Furthermore, we have no experience with them, so we can‘t tell you how good or bad they are. Their tale on the Internet looks good! The ones we list below, having spent many days researching the Internet, are probably the best bets.
Note, though, acquiring a kilt takes time, so start the process soon, preferably right now!
